Three Years

Happy Third Anniversary to my adventurous, loving and dedicated hubby!

When I look back on the last three years of marriage, the first word that comes to mind is FUN! It started with a fun-filled night of dancing with our friends and family at our wedding and has continued every day since. What a wonderful life we lead!

Since I didn't venture into the blog-world until after our big day, I wanted to feature a few of my favorite things (besides our amazing family and friends!) from our big day.

Our version of the guest book. Monogrammed cards for guests to write their well wishes and advice for us! We love going back and reading through these frequently!

Crayons and Activity books for the kiddos!

Our wedding invitations were "pocket style" and so we carried that over into our programs.

Easily my favorite thing! Welcomed guests into the reception.

Simply and sparkly cake. Our florist made the mini "E" cake topper, too.

A wii to entertain the non-dancers.

And of course- my sweet, sweet groom.

Cheers to continuing the fun for many, many more years!

I wish we could have another wedding...same bride and groom,
Laura

A Baby is Brewing...

Big News!

My sweet hubby and I have a baby girl on the way!

I found out that I was expecting right before I went to Vegas for my bestie's bachelorette party. Remember that?

Both my husband and I wanted to wait to tell everyone the exciting news until I was further along but I knew that if I went to Vegas, for a bachelorette party, and did not even have one celebratory drink, there would be some questions. So, I decided to let them know that first night there before the bachelorette festivities were underway!

Side note: I called the bride-to-be earlier in the week to tell her and asked her if it would be okay to do a little announcement in Vegas. The last thing I wanted to do was take attention off of her weekend because of this news! She was so excited and did not mind one bit!

Gather your supplies: tea bags, strips of colored paper, (and pretend you see these in the picture) glue and a marker.

Fold the paper in half and crease the top.

Write the big news on one side...

...and the date on the other side!
(At this point, we didn't know our exact due date as the Dr. wouldn't see me until 8 weeks along but I knew it would be in the Fall! Our exact due date is October 31, 2012.)

Glue each side to the tea bag label and let dry.

Wrap it up in what would look like a cute Bachelorette gift for everyone and try to contain your excitement/nervousness!

My girlfriends were SO surprised and it was so fun for me to watch their faces as they slowly opened the packages and put together what was happening!

This could not have been easier and such a cute way to announce your big arrival!

Baby's First Trip to Vegas,
Laura

Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Scones

You think you know a lot about your significant other...and then you get married...and you learn that your husband likes scones. Scones? Yes, scones. He's so sophisticated.

I put a twist on chocolate chip scones by adding delicious cinnamon to create a yummy treat for any time of the day!

Gather your ingredients.
(Full recipe is at bottom of post).
White flour, wheat flour, buttermilk, sugar, butter, baking powder, vanilla, salt, cinnamon, chocolate chips, one egg and one egg white

I used a pastry blender to combine the cold butter in the dry ingredients but you could just use two knifes, as well.

I'm always a little apprehensive about rolling out dough but this dough was super easy to work with and it was compliant while I formed it into a circle about 3/4 in. thick. Good, dough.

Cut into twelve triangles and pull apart slightly.

I sprinkled this little gem on top before baking. If you have a Trader Joe's near you- pick some up next time you are there! It would be great on french toast, too!

Ta-Da!

Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Scones
Recipe adapted from Skinny Taste
Yield: 12 servings
Prep Time: 10 min. Total Time: 30 min.

Ingredients:
3/4 cup cold buttermilk
1/4 cup sugar (plus more for sprinkling)
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 large egg
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup white whole wheat flour
1 tsp cinnamon (plus more for sprinkling)
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3 tbsp chilled butter (must be cold) cut into small pieces
3/4 cup chocolate chips
1 large egg white, lightly beaten
1 1/2 tbsp sugar

Directions:
1. Whisk together the buttermilk, sugar, vanilla and egg in a medium bowl.

2. Whisk together the flour, cinnamon, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Cut in chilled butter with a pastry blender (or 2 knifes) until the mixture resembles coarse meal.

3. Fold in chocolate chips and add milk mixture stirring just until moist.

4. Place dough on a floured surface and knead gently with floured hands.
5. Form dough into a 9 in. circle on a greased baking sheet and cut completely into 12 triangles.

6. Brush egg white and sprinkle scones with cinnamon and sugar.

7. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. Serve warm.

Enjoy!

They say it's your birthday...

Today is such a special day for me. Happy 30th Birthday to my sweet hubster! (I'd also like to use this time to note that I am much younger than him. I am nowhere near turning 30. Just FYI...)

My other half.

The one that spurs on all our adventures. (And plans them, too, which I am so grateful for!)

How cute of a kiddo was he?!
I love him despite his love for OU.

Before we were dating and I only swooned for him from a far, this was (and still is) one of my favorite pictures of him with his sisters. So handsome.

Thank you for having a best friend that could fall in love with my best friend so we can hang out with our best friends at the same time.

Thank you for loving me and making me laugh.

Thank you for being a Godly example in our marriage.

I love you!
Happy Birthday!

30 sounds old,
Laura
